Outlook on the eMobility Transition in Hungary -

Dr. Marie-Theres Thiell represented online DialogUngarn in this knowledge & best practice sharing session on the benefits and challenges of the e-mobility transition in Hungary hosted by Péter Csucska, Managing Director, KOSTAL Global Business Services at KOSTAL Group. 


First Tamás Kórász, Head of Management Consulting and Technology Advisory, KPMG, gave a global outlook on the challenges and opportunities of the electric vehicles based on their recent survey. 


His main messages: 

- 90 % of electric vehicles are sold in three Markets: China as the biggest, followed by US and third Europe. 10 % in the rest of the world,

- without state subsidy there will not be a significant increase, but stagnation,

- the relevance of brands is decreasing,

- 2/3 of all world wide charger stations are located in China, 

- collaboration and strategic partnerships among car manufactures are key success factors. 


The presentation was followed by a roundtable and open discussion moderated by Péter Csucska with:

- József Bőhm, Global Head of Sustainability.

about the situation in Hungary in comparison to Germany, challenges, challenges regarding charging infrastructure as well as a mindset change what is needed on customer side for more usage of electric vehicles. 


Dr. Marie-Theres Thiell pointed out the subsidy system in Hungary and the reasons for the decreasing of new electric cars in Germany after a peak in 2021, what is mainly the phase out of state subsidy due to budget shortages. 

She also explained the challenges of the electric grids for connecting electric chargers especially DC chargers and quick chargers. 


All agreed, that non-fossil engines are necessary to reduce CO2 emissions, but that there is still a long way to go for e-mobility.
